Neighborhood Center Receives Grant for ZONO Cabinet

Specialized sanitizing apparatus helps with COVID Protocols

The Neighborhood Center was recently able to obtain a ZONO Sanitizing Cabinet which was made possible through a grant from M&T Bank/Partners Trust Bank charitable fund at the Herkimer Oneida Community Foundation. The ZONO Cabinet uses humidity and ozone to disinfect and sanitize toys, cots, bedding and other items thoroughly and expediently.

The Zono Cabinet kills 99.99% of common viruses and 99.9% of common bacteria. “In the few short months we have had it, we have seen a reduction in absence days due to illness and we are so excited that we are able to keep our children healthy and well,” said Patrice VanNortwick, Division Director of Child Care and Family Services.

Each year, the children in childcare miss so many days of care and education due to the flu and other illnesses, despite our stringent cleaning. Absences due to ‘everyday’ illness negatively impact the growth and development of children, and significantly impact our families as well.

The Neighborhood Center provides on-premises childcare for over 100 children each day, in addition to school-age aftercare for dozens of youth. The grant provided the necessary funds to purchase this equipment.

The Neighborhood Center is a comprehensive Human Services Agency in Central New York. All Services are based on a philosophy of empowerment – helping people to help themselves. The mission is to enrich the lives of individuals and families through cooperative opportunities, resources, and advocacy which embrace diversity, promote empowerment, and foster responsible citizenship.
