JOB DESCRIPTION: The mission of The Neighborhood Center Outpatient Program is to treat, promote and empower individuals on their road to their recovery from the effects of substance use, mental health disorders, and/or other behavioral healthcare issues. The Licensed Mental Health/Substance Use Disorder Counselor will provide mental health and/or Substance Use Disorder counseling to our patients diagnosed with a co-occurring disorder. The Licensed Mental Health/Substance Use Disorder Counselor will work on a Full-Time basis at The Neighborhood Center Outpatient Program.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Maintain a case load of patients seeking treatment from the effects of substance use and/or mental health disorders.
- Perform essential counseling responsibilities including screening, intake and orientation, assessment, evaluation and intervention, treatment planning, referrals, crisis intervention, counseling, group therapy, patient education, case management, reporting and record keeping.
- Completes required client documentation both electronic and paper (as necessary), adhering to applicable OASAS procedures and confidentiality regulations.
- Assist with the training of staff, volunteers and student interns as assigned.
- Exhibit exemplary knowledge of the biopsychosocial process of substance use disorders/recovery, behavioral health, self-help group processes and principles of counseling.
- Monitor patients’ compliance with treatment goals.
- Participate in program, administrative and clinical committees as assigned.
- Relate effectively with staff, clients, and community while upholding confidentiality requirements.
- Maintains relationships with vocational, educational, social services, probation, parole, referral agencies and other community agencies associated with client rehabilitation to ensure continuity of services.
- Maintains self in a professional manner at all times, adhering to OMH guidelines, Neighborhood Center policy and procedures and in keeping with the Agency’s mission statement, as well as NASW Code of Ethics.
- Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications
- Performs other duties as requested by Agency Administration.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree Required with intent to complete licensure (LMSW, LCSW, LNHC, or equivalent licensure).
- Two year of employment experience in the Human Services field.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the educational requirements.
