JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Childcare Site Director, plan, implement, supervise, and evaluate the School-Age Child Care program and assist in the direction of the overall childcare program. This position may be responsible for the direct leadership of groups.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise the planning, execution, and evaluation of the School-Age Child Care program and assist in the direction of the Childcare program.
- Know, and keep in force, the child care standards of the State of New York, the County of Oneida, the City of Utica, and other accrediting agencies. Assure that accurate and timely records of compliance are kept on file.
- Be responsible for the upkeep of child care records, including individual files.
- Assist with recruitment of children and conduct enrollment interviews.
- Be responsible for the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of school age child care activities as a whole, as well as specific activities.
- Care for children’s physical needs, which may require lifting and carrying children.
- Recommend to the Site Director regarding families, or individuals whose needs are not within the function of the Childcare Program for possible referral to other agency departments or to other appropriate services in the community
- Report to the Site Director the need for supplies, materials, equipment and repairs.
- Maintain an environment that is safe, healthy, orderly, and attractive.
- Assist in supervision and periodic evaluations of staff assigned to the Child Care Program.
- Coordinate and conduct school-age child care individual group meetings.
- Works with the Site Director on classroom management with teachers.
- Works with Site Director on daily attendance and classroom coverage.
- Participate in supervisory conferences and staff meetings.
- Attend to professional growth and development by attending workshops and in-service meetings/trainings, by sharing reading materials related to personal growth, child care issues, and curriculum. Fulfill training requirements of funding, licensing, and regulatory offices.
- Assists with billing, money collection, and monthly statements for the School Age Program
- Participate actively in professional organizations and networking groups to promote quality service to children, youth, and families.
- Represent and interpret the agency to supporting and interested persons/groups.
- Assist with other related responsibilities as assigned; to include, but not limited to, working directly with youth and families, public relations, and fund-raising.
- Maintains a professional manner at all times and adheres to The Neighborhood Center policy, procedures and Agency Mission Statement.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field and two years’ direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity in a child care program or related field of work.
OR
- New York State Children’s Program Administrator credential and two years direct experience working with children under the age of 13 years, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity in a child care program or related field of work.
OR
- School Age Child Care Credential or other Office recognized credential specific to the school-age developmental period and two years’ direct experience working with children under the age of 13 years, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity in a child care program or related field of work.
OR
- Two years of college with 18 credits in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field and two years’ direct experience working with children under the age of 13 years including at least one year in a supervisory capacity in a child care program or related field of work.
