JOB DESCRIPTION: A Crisis Counselor I provides intensive assessment, linkage, and follow-up of individuals identified to be in acute psychiatric distress in within the Schoharie county community or remotely, as assigned. Further, the Crisis Counselor is responsible for referring clients to appropriate agencies for needed services and for assessing and intervening with individuals whose needs are more complex, requiring a higher level of expertise. The Crisis Counselor is expected to perform job functions with a degree of independence, and is expected to assist in the management of day-to-day service operation.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Provides short-term crisis intervention and diffusion for children and adults both in the community and virtually, including comprehensive crisis assessment and suicide/homicide lethality
  • Maintains accurate documentation of client/ agency contacts in accordance with program policy and procedure manual.
  • Assumes on-call and administrative back-up responsibilities consistent with program needs.
  • Attends and actively participates in all required training, staff meetings, and case conferences as required by agency administration.
  • Engages in supervision on a regular basis.
  • Provides educational/marketing/training presentations to the community, as assigned by the Crisis Program Director.
  • Assists law enforcement and other agencies in handling mental health related crisis.
  • Engages in agency/program projects or work groups as assigned by the Crisis Program Director.
  • May provide support/supervision to unlicensed staff.
  • Secures and maintains all necessary certification and professional licensing as dictated by profession and required qualifications.
  • Engages clients with telephonic and virtual crisis intervention on the local crisis line and 988 crisis line as assigned.
  • Makes recommendations and assists in facilitation of the appropriate level of treatment/services/supports.
  • Maintains a professional manner at all times, adhering to The Neighborhood Center, Inc.’s policy and procedures and in keeping with the Agency’s mission statement.
  • Maintains a valid New York State driver’s license and have access to a viable vehicle, if not operating remotely.
  • Performs other duties as requested by Agency Administration.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
Must meet one of the following criteria:
  • Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) licensed by the New York State (NYS) Education Department with two (2) years of experience in the provision of mental health services
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) licensed by the New York State (NYS) Education Department with two (2) years of experience in the provision of mental health services
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the “R” credential (LCSW-R) licensed by the New York State (NYS) Education Department with two (2) years of experience in the provision of mental health services
  • A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) licensed by the New York State (NYS) Education Department with two (2) years of experience in the provision of mental health services
  • A Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) licensed by the New York State (NYS) Education Department with two (2) years of experience in the provision of mental health services.
