The Neighborhood Center’s human service roots date back to 1905, when the agency began as a settlement house assisting immigrants. Today, the agency provides a full range of outreach, preventative, developmental and therapeutic human services for over 20,000 individuals in the local and surrounding communities.

Clinicians have continuous access to program management and excellent administrative and clinical support in regards to credentialing, caseload management, scheduling, and billing. Clinicians have direct access to crisis support and Care Management for high needs cases. Formal Clinical Supervision is provided as well as informal peer/group supervision with a dynamic team that has a wide variety of backgrounds. Supervision is focused on supporting the well-being and development of the therapist as well as ensuring the best care of their clients. Opportunities to assist in providing clinical supervision to interns and/or peers may be available depending upon credential.

The organization’s focus on enhancing Evidence Based Practices has led to training opportunities in advanced clinical interventions for therapists that are not commonly available in community mental health settings including EMDR, DBT, and PCIT.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Crisis Counselor is part of the Integrated Treatment Program (ITP) multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing quality care to individuals dually diagnosed with mental health and substance use disorders. The Crisis Counselor provides intensive assessment, linkage and follow-up of new and enrolled clients that are in acute crisis. Crisis services are delivered in the community, at the clinic(s), and/or through telehealth depending on the needs and preferences of the individual. S/he is responsible for collaborating with the treatment team regarding the needs of high-risk clients. The Crisis Counselor also supports the program by conducting client screenings, intakes, and assessments as needed.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

● Provides culturally informed, short-term crisis intervention and diffusion in the community, at the clinic, or via telehealth for new and established ITP clients; including comprehensive assessment of suicide and homicide risk.

● Completes safety plans, makes recommendations, and assists in facilitating needed treatment/services/supports in collaboration with the client.

● Maintains timely, complete, and accurate record documentation including assessments, safety plans, communications, etc.

● Attends and actively participates in all required training, staff meetings, supervision, and case conferences as required by agency administration.

● Provides educational/marketing/training presentations to the community as assigned.

● Engages in agency/program projects or work groups as assigned.

● Maintains self in a professional manner at all times, adhering to New York State Office of Mental Health guidelines, Neighborhood Center policy and procedures, and keeping with the Agency’s mission statement, as well as relevant professional standards.

● Maintain a valid NY State driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.

● Secures and maintains all necessary certification and professional licensing as dictated by the profession and required qualifications.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

● A Master’s degree in Social Worker (MSW) or Mental Health Counseling (MHC) with a minimum of one (1) year of experience in the provision of mental health services. NY state license preferred, if unlicensed must obtain a limited practice permit and actively work towards licensure within 6 months from the date of hire or license eligibility.
