Multi-Site Teacher’s Assistant

  • $17.50/hr.
  • 37.5-hour work week
  • M – F,  Shift hours will Vary
  • 27 paid days off in year 1 (vacation & holidays), plus paid sick time!

Position:  Children’s Services Floater

JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Community & Social Program Director, the Multi Site Teachers Assistant will work with groups of children and youth using social, recreational, and educational activities. He/she/they will be responsible for children in School Age Childcare and the Childcare Center on the days that he/she/they are not substituting at any of the Universal Pre-kindergarten sites in Utica, NY or the sites that are operated under the Unified Court System (UCS) and are located at the Oneida County Family Court locations in Utica, New York and Rome, New York. Assist in the creation of an environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, implement, facilitate, and document group activities/lesson plans and programs to meet the needs of children and their families.
  • Maintain safety and ensure the welfare of all enrolled children, supervision of children during all activities, interact with the children in a way which conveys respect and nurturing.
  • Assists the site Teacher or Teacher’s Assistant with daily schedule, lessons and activities.
  • Responsible for site enforcement of New York State Office of Children and Family Services Childcare Center and School Age Childcare regulations.
  • Responsible for site enforcement of New York State Department of Education Universal Pre-kindergarten regulations.
  • Responsible for site enforcement of the Unified Court System standards and regulations of the State of New York, the Oneida County Court System and The Neighborhood Center, Inc.
  • Cares for children’s physical needs, which may involve lifting and carrying very young children.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis.
  • Assists in maintaining and providing periodic testing of emergency response plan.
  • Maintains an environment that is safe, healthy, orderly, appealing and respectful.
  • Develops and maintains a cooperative working relationship with parents and guardians.
  • Responsible to refer individuals and families whose needs are not met within the scope of the Children’s Center program to appropriate internal or community services.
  • Maintains an environment that is safe, healthy, enriching, orderly and appealing.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of records, including individual files.
  • Represents and interprets the agency and its mission to supporting and interested groups, as assigned.
  • Care for the children’s physical needs as appropriate including administering first aid within the parameters of training and dispensing medications within the parameters of written regulations and policies.
  • Provide supervisor with input/information as to special needs children may have, problems, incidents and emergencies to ensure proper action/intervention is taken.
  • Attends staff training as required, including annual meeting as per mandates of funding and regulatory offices.
  • Reports to the Children’s Center Site Director the need for supplies, materials, equipment and repairs.
  • Attend staff or other types of meetings as required.
  • Fulfill training requirements of all funding and regulatory bodies.
  •  Maintain accurate records of group attendance, statistical information, records, summaries and registration information as required.
  • Assist supervisor in assessing the need for supplies, materials, equipment and repairs.
  • Maintains self in professional manner at all times and adheres to The Neighborhood Center policy, procedures and Agency Mission Statement.
  • Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time, and prepared to start working.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Thorough knowledge of child development. Ability to oversee the planning and implementation of a daily program which enhances the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of children ages 0 to 12 years.
  • Knowledge of the Unified Court Systems standards and regulations of the State of New York, the Oneida County Court System and The Neighborhood Center, Inc.
  • Understanding of individual and family dynamics and referral processes.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining professional relationships.
  • Ability to prepare accurate and timely reports and records.
  • Driver’s License and transportation required in order to travel between sites.

An Associate’s Degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field

OR

School-age Childcare Credential or other Office recognized credential specific to the school- age developmental period. and one (1) year of experience working with children less than 13 years of age

OR

High School Diploma or its equivalency AND one (1) year of experience working with children less than 12 years of age
