A Preschool Childcare Teacher position is available at our 615 Mary St. site in Utica, NY. 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; Day-time work schedule with flexibility needed as necessary. Shift: 7:45am-4:45pm

JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Child Care Site Director, the child care teacher is responsible for planning and implementing a program for social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of children 6 weeks to 12 years of age. A Child Care Teacher is responsible for the daily provision of activities and routine for a group of children in the child care program. He/she leads the child care room staff in providing daily age appropriate activities and overseeing the safety and overall quality of the classroom environment.

• Responsible for the preparation, implementation and evaluation of classroom activities and curriculum as a whole as well as specific activities.
• Assumes direct leadership in carrying out classroom activities including those that are consistently of a very active nature.
• Cares for children’s physical needs, which may involve the regular lifting and carrying of young children.
• Maintain an environment that is safe, healthy, orderly and appealing.
• Alerts site director to children with special needs, to problems, incidents and emergencies to ensure appropriate intervention is taken.
• Develops and maintains a cooperative working relationship with child care parents and guardians, conducts at least two (2) parent /teacher conferences per year.
• Assists in planning and implementing educational and recreational family activities that meet varying client needs.
• Responsible for the upkeep of current records of children’s development, including growth charts, developmental records, anecdotal records, medication logs and reports.
• Apprise site supervisor of the need for supplies, materials, equipment and repairs.
• Assists in the supervision and evaluation of teacher assistants, interns and volunteers as assigned.
• Fulfills all training requirements of funding, licensing and regulatory offices.
• Participates effectively in supervisory conferences and staff meetings.
• Assist with other related responsibilities as assigned.
• Maintains self in professional manner at all times and adheres to The Neighborhood Center policy, procedures and Agency Mission Statement.

• Experience working with infants and/or children in a child care setting.
• Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with clients.
• Ability to prepare accurate and timely reports and records.

Must possess an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field
Child Development Associate credential or other Office-recognized credential specific to the preschool developmental period AND one (1) years of experience caring for children
Nine (9) college credits in Early Childhood, Child Development or a related field, with a plan of study leading to: a Child Development Associate Credential OR Other Office – recognized credential specific to the preschool developmental period OR an Associate Degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field and two (2) years of experience related to caring for children REQUIRED.
