SENIOR CRISIS COUNSELOR

Our Crisis Program is growing~ Part-time, remote opportunities available on these shifts on weekends and holidays:

  • 7:00am-3:00pm
  • 3:00pm-11:00pm
  • 11:00pm-7:00am

 Must reside in one of the following counties in New York State: Oneida, Herkimer, Otsego, Chenango, Delaware or Schoharie.

JOB DESCRIPTION:  A Senior Crisis Counselor functions independently in fulfilling work responsibilities and serves as a role model in team building. In addition, a Senior Crisis Counselor is expected to assist in both the supervision of staff and the management of day-to-day crisis service operation.  S/he/they is expected to work in complex situations with a high degree of independence. A Senior Crisis Counselor is required to complete crisis assessments for children and adults who are identified as being in possible acute psychiatric distress, and is responsible for referring them to appropriate agencies for needed services. This position requires flexibility to be available when needed to travel to the areas that the program serves, including within the six counties served or additional counties as the program expands.  This position may also operate remotely, as assigned.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Provides short-term crisis intervention and diffusion for children and adults in the community and virtually including comprehensive crisis assessment and suicide/homicide lethality.
  • Makes recommendations and assists in facilitating the appropriate level of treatment/services/supports.
  • Assists in the provision of ongoing clinical supervision of staff as well as on-the-spot supervision, task delegation and conflict resolution as assigned by the Program Director.
  • Assists in clinical and administrative review of cases for quality assurance.
  • Assumes on-call, and administrative back-up responsibilities consistent with program needs; serves as the shift supervisor.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of client and agency contacts in accordance with program policy and procedure manual.
  • Assists in the recruitment, orientation and training of new staff.
  • Attends and actively participates in all required training, staff meetings and case conferences as required by agency administration.
  • Engages in supervision on a regular basis.
  • Engages in agency/program projects or work groups as assigned by the Program Director.
  • Assists law enforcement and other agencies in handling mental health related crisis.
  • Provides educational/ marketing /training presentations to the community, as assigned by the Program Director.
  • Maintains self in a professional manner at all times, adhering to The Neighborhood Center Inc.’s policy and procedures and in keeping with the Agency’s mission statement.
  • Performs other duties as requested by Agency Administration.
  • Maintains a valid NY State driver’s license and has access to a usable vehicle or may operate remotely, as assigned;
  • Secures and maintains all necessary certification and professional licensing as dictated by profession and required qualifications.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) licensed by the New York State Education Department and two (2) years of experience in the provision of mental health services and one (1) year staff supervisory experience required

OR

  • A Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) licensed by the New York State Education Department and two (2) years of experience in the provision of mental health services and one (1) year staff supervisory experience required

OR

  • A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) licensed by the New York State Education Department and two (2) years of experience in the provision of mental health services and one (1) year staff supervisory experience required

OR

  • A Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) licensed by the New York State Education Department and two (2) years of experience in the provision of mental health services and one (1) year staff supervisory experience required.  EOE
