CHILD CARE TEACHER at the Children’s Center at Family Court in Rome, NY. Travel required between sites- primary worksite is in Rome, NY. Driver’s License and transportation required.

Basic Work schedule is: 32 hours per week (some additional hours may be required)

  • Monday & Tuesday: 8:30am – 4:00pm
  • Wednesday & Thursday: 8:30am – 4:30pm
  • Friday: 8:30am – 2:30pm

JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Program Director, the Children’s Center Site Teacher supervises the planning, implementation and evaluation of the classroom activities, ensure accuracy of records and supervises classroom staff and volunteers. The sites are operated under the Unified Court System (UCS) and are located at the Oneida County Family Court locations in Utica, New York and Rome, New York.

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the preparation, implementation and evaluation of classroom activities and curriculum as a whole as well as specific activities.
  • Responsible for site enforcement of the Unified Court System standards and regulations of the State of New York, the Oneida County Court System and The Neighborhood Center, Inc.
  • Cares for children’s physical needs, which may involve lifting and carrying very young children.
  • Maintains an environment that is safe, healthy, orderly, appealing and respectful.
  • Develops and maintains a cooperative working relationship with parents and guardians.
  • Responsible to refer individuals and families whose needs are not met within the scope of the Children’s Center program to appropriate internal or community services.
  • Maintains an environment that is safe, healthy, enriching, orderly and appealing.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of records, including individual files.
  • Reports to the Program Director the need for supplies and materials as well as any repair and equipment needs.
  • Coordinates and supervises volunteer or student intern.
  • Assists with the planning and implementation of Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Represents and interprets the agency and its mission to supporting and interested groups, as assigned.
  • Completes and conducts staff performance appraisals as per agency policy.
  • Attends staff training as required, including annual meeting as per mandates of funding and regulatory offices.
  • Reports to the Children’s Center Site Director the need for supplies, materials, equipment and repairs.
  • Maintains self in professional manner at all times and adheres to The Neighborhood Center policy, procedures and Agency Mission Statement.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Thorough knowledge of child development. Ability to oversee the planning and implementation of a daily program which enhances the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of children ages 0 to 12 years.
  • Previous experience with the effective supervision of staff.
  • Knowledge of the Unified Court Systems standards and regulations of the State of New York, the Oneida County Court System and The Neighborhood Center, Inc.
  • Understanding of individual and family dynamics and referral processes.
  • Proven knowledge of agency and community resources.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining professional relationships.
  • Ability to prepare accurate and timely reports and records.
  • Driver’s License and transportation required in order to travel between sites.
  • High School Diploma required or Associates Degree preferred and two (2) years full-time teaching experience in a child day care center, family or group family day care home or other early childhood program.
