Project RISE (Respond, Invest, Sustain, Empower)

Project RISE (Respond, Invest, Sustain, Empower)

Project Rise is a community-based youth development program serving youth ages 8–15. The program addresses underlying factors contributing to youth violence, mental health challenges, and limited access to opportunity through structured mentorship, social-emotional learning, and environmental programming.

Through a strategic partnership with the Utica Zoo, participants engage in hands-on, nature-based activities that promote responsibility, empathy, emotional regulation, and leadership development.

Our program combines mentorship, environmental learning, and community

connection to help youth grow into their strengths.

Why Learning Through Nature Matters

Nature-based learning encourages responsibility and empathy as participants care for living things and work together toward shared goals. These experiences help youth build patience, problem-solving skills, and a sense of accountability in a way that feels engaging and rewarding rather than punitive.

How We Help

  1. Provide caring adult mentors youth can trust
  2. Teach skills to manage emotions and handle stress
  3. Build confidence and leadership skills
  4. Encourage positive behavior and healthy choices
  5. Offer hands-on learning through nature and environmental activities
  6. Help youth develop empathy, responsibility, and teamwork
  7. Create a safe, supportive space to learn and grow
  8. Connect families with community resources when needed
