JOB DESCRIPTION: An Adult Recovery Services Group Worker, as a member of the Adult Recovery Services staff, works to promote psychiatric rehabilitation through structured, planned activities. The primary function of the Group Worker is to assist in coordinating activities, special events, and educational programs for consumers. The Group Worker responds to consumer needs, promoting and encouraging consumers to further their skills in social and vocational areas, thus contributing to the consumer’s recovery. A Group Worker interacts and motivates consumers through planned activities, special events, and effective, designed programs.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Plans and coordinates activities, special events, and programs.
- Assists team members, consumers, and the Program Director with service design and development.
- Facilitates or co-facilitates groups as required by the Personalized Recovery Oriented Services (PROS) programming and consistent with evidenced based practices.
- Interacts and provides information to consumers on how to access natural resources within the community.
- Assists in acquiring speakers to address issues that directly affect consumers.
- Functions as a community liaison to track new referrals received from clinics, case management, and other community sources to ensure accurate follow-up services.
- Processes intakes, referrals, and assessments with the ARS team, as needed.
- Participates in motivating consumers to attend educational workshops and groups.
- Provides direct services and/or referrals to consumers who have vocational needs and consistent with the requirements of the Assisted Competitive Employment (ACE) program.
- Provides timely and accurate record documentation.
- Maintains a professional manner at all times, adhering to The Neighborhood Center policy, procedures and in keeping with the Agency’s mission statement.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Director and Agency Administration.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated extensive knowledge of community resources and multiple human service delivery systems.
- Ability to prepare accurate and timely written reports and records.
- Ability to give support, comfort, and reassurance to consumers.
- Ability to secure cooperation of, and work effectively with, individuals and agencies in the community.
- Ability to provide safe, positive, and planned educational activities.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively engage consumers diagnosed with Serious Mental Illnesses and/or Substance Use Disorder in meaningful, group discussions.
- A valid New York State Driver’s license and reliable transportation.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS (one of the following) for Part-Time
- A High School/Equivalency Diploma and a minimum of four (4) years of experience with the mental health and substance abuse service delivery system required.
- An Associate’s Degree in Human Services or a related field and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in the mental health field preferred
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services related field with one (1) year of experience in the mental health field preferred.
FOR PART TIME:
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in the mental health and/or substance use service delivery system;
OR
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma with one of the following:
- Certification as a Recovery Peer Advocate, OR
- Certification as a Mental Health Peer Advocate, OR
- Ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of employment.
