  • M – F, 7.5 hour shifts, between the hours of 8:30 am – 4:30 pm (some flexibility required)

Standard work schedule of 37.5 hour work week, M-F, with flexibility as needed between the hours of 8:30-6:00.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Peer Specialist/Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) will assist individuals in their recovery goals with regaining independence in their community and sustaining their own recovery, improving their overall health. The Peer Specialist/Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) will work on a Full-Time basis at The Neighborhood Center Outpatient Program.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Assist clients in articulating personal goals for recovery through the use of one-to one and group sessions. During these sessions the PS will support clients in identifying and creating goals and developing recovery plans with the skills, strengths, supports and resources to aid them in achieving
  • Utilize tools such as the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) to assist clients in creating their own individual wellness and recovery plans.
  • Educate individuals and family members on coping skills. role model the value of the individual recovery experience.
  • Provide non-clinical crisis support after periods of hospitalization or incarceration.
  • Accompany individuals to court appearances and medical appointments.
  • Educate clients and family members on various modes of recovery.
  • Teach and role model the value of every individual’s recovery experience.
  • Model effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.
  • Serve as a recovery agent by providing and advocating for any effective recovery based services that will aid the client in daily living.
  • Assist in obtaining services that suit that individual’s recovery needs by providing names of staff, community resources and groups that may be useful. Inform clients about community and natural supports and how to use these in the recovery process.
  • Assist clients in developing empowerment skills and combating stigma through self-advocacy.
  • Ensures that patient centered care and safety is central to the culture, philosophy and organization of the practice.
  • Responsible for adhering to all standards and guidelines established by applicable regulatory authorities.
  • Maintains a professional matter at all times, adhering to The Neighborhood Center, Inc.’s policies and procedures and in keeping with the Agency’s Mission Statement.
  • Performs other duties as requested by Program Director or Agency Administration.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Graduate or Equivalency required
  • Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) Certification required within six (6) months of hire and maintain CRPA certification throughout employment.
  • One year of Health or Human Service experience preferred.
  • An individual does not need to be in recovery, but must be able to confer empathy through lived experiences such as family and/or close friends (each peer specialist self-defines his or her “peer-ness”).
  • Must have a valid NYS Driver’s License.
