MOBILE CRISIS COUNSELOR: ON CALL POSITIONS

On-call MOBILE CRISIS COUNSELOR positions are available in HERKIMER, ONEIDA, OTSEGO, CHENANGO, DELAWARE, SCHOHARIE COUNTIES, New York with the Mobile Crisis Assessment Team (MCAT). On-call position shifts are weekends .

*Weekends and some Holidays*

Be a part of a Crisis Team committed to providing critical services to our communities. Provide mobile crisis services for children, youth and adults. Take crisis calls, go mobile as needed. Flexibility & ability to work independently necessary.

JOB DESCRIPTION: A Crisis Counselor II provides intensive assessment, linkage and follow-up of individuals identified to be in acute psychiatric distress in various locations throughout the community. Further, s/he is responsible for referring clients to appropriate agencies for needed services and for assessing and intervening with individuals in crisis. S/he is expected to perform job functions with a degree of independence, and is expected to assist in the management of day-to-day service operation as assigned.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Provides short-term crisis intervention and diffusion for children and adults in the community including comprehensive crisis assessment and suicide/homicide lethality.
  • Makes recommendations and assists in facilitating the appropriate level of treatment/services/supports.
  • Provides intensive assessment, follow-up and linkage to children and youth admitted to the Adolescent Crisis Residence.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of client/ agency contacts in accordance with program policy and procedure manual.
  • Assumes on-call, and administrative back-up responsibilities consistent with program needs;
  • Attends and actively participates in all required training, staff meetings and case conferences as required by agency administration.
  • Engages in supervision on a regular basis.
  • Provides educational/ marketing /training presentations to the community, as assigned by the Crisis Program Director.
  • Assists law enforcement and other agencies in handling mental health related crisis.
  • Engages in agency/program projects or work groups as assigned by the Crisis Program Director.
  • Maintains self in a professional manner at all times, adhering to The Neighborhood Center, Inc.’s policy and procedures and in keeping with the Agency’s mission statement;
  • Maintain a valid NY State driver’s license and have access to a viable vehicle;
  • Secures and maintains all necessary certification and professional licensing as dictated by profession and required qualifications.
  • Performs other duties as requested by Agency Administration.
  • Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology or other closely related Human Services field and a minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a human services agency including one (1) year of supervised experience providing services in a mental health setting required.
  • A Master Social Worker (MSW) with one (1) year of experience in the provision of mental health services and must obtain a limited practice permit and must obtain a New York State license (LMSW) within 6 months from the date of hire.

OR

  • A New York State Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with one (1) year of experience in the provision of mental health services

OR

  • A New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with one (1) year of experience in the provision of mental health services

OR

  • A New York State Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with one (1) year of experience in the provision of mental health services

OR

  • A New York State Licensed Psychologist (Ph.D.) with one (1) year of experience in the provision of mental health services.
