The Neighborhood Center Clarifies Status of New Intensive Crisis Stabilization Center — Program Currently Hiring Ahead of Future Opening

[Herkimer, NY] — May 2026 — The Neighborhood Center is clarifying that its new Intensive Crisis Stabilization Center (ICSC) is not yet open or accepting patients at this time. The organization is currently in the development and staffing phase of the project and actively hiring healthcare professionals in preparation for a future launch.

Recent media coverage incorrectly indicated that the center was already operational. While the ICSC represents a major expansion of behavioral health services in the region, the program remains under development as recruitment, training, and final implementation efforts continue.

Once operational, the Intensive Crisis Stabilization Center will be one of only 12 such centers in New York State and will provide immediate, short-term support for individuals experiencing mental health or substance use crises. The center is being designed to offer stabilization services for up to 24 hours in a safe, therapeutic environment.

“This is an important investment in the future of behavioral healthcare in our region, but the program is not yet open to the public,” said Sandra Soroka, Executive Director. “Right now, our focus is on building a strong multidisciplinary team that will help us deliver compassionate, high-quality crisis care when services officially begin.”

The ICSC will eventually serve individuals across Oneida, Herkimer, Schoharie, Otsego, Fulton, and Montgomery counties.

The Neighborhood Center is currently hiring for several positions, including:

  • Registered Nurses (RNs)
  • Nurse Practitioners
  • Licensed Social Workers
  • Substance Abuse Counselors

Multiple shifts will be available for professionals interested in meaningful, community-based behavioral healthcare work.

Healthcare professionals interested in employment opportunities can learn more at The Neighborhood Center Careers.
